We thought you might like an update on Lainey. What a great dog! She is a wonderful addition to our family. Very loving and easy going. My wife often complains she is too smart opening doors and getting into everything. She is also developing into quite a hunting dog. We have had her out on Pheasant, Chucker and Quail this season. Winter 2023 / Spring 2024 - Florida
Kevin and his wife are the most sincere breeders that I have come across in a very long time. After a in-depth phone conversation with Kevin regarding our lifestyle and what we were looking for he suggested one of his male "started dogs“ could be a good fit. Kevin was of great assistance organizing all the logistics and shortly thereafter I was able to meet the puppy in person. I trusted Kevin‘s judgement and we brought him back to our place in south florida where he has found a very happy home. I take him for extended physical activities twice a day and in between he adjusts to the activity level of the household very well. When we take him on trails offleash he never ventures out too far for very long time and tends to stay within close distance. He is great with other dogs and a highly motivated to learn. His recall has been very good from day 1 and overall his temperament and general attitude has been nothing but great. The feedback from his trainer has been very positive - he is “the definition of a people pleaser“. We are looking forward to many joyful years with him and hope to get a second dog from Hybrid Retrievers.

Radar was the perfect dog for our family. He had an unparalleled love and instinct for hunting. Was incredibly easy to train and great with other dogs and people. When not in the blind, Radar was the perfect loyal companion for our kids, family and met every delivery person who shadowed our door with warmth and compassion. Radar would often visit our neighbors but always came home to a whistle. Hybrid Retrievers did a masterful job matching Radar with our family, and we will be forever indebted.

We just got our new pup from Hybrid Retrievers and we could not be more happy! We purchased Gus in Fall 2019 and just got Fred a couple weeks ago. The boys are fast friends and both have wonderful temperaments. The dogs are very smart, love to play and super snuggly. We have owned dogs for the past 30 years, and are thrilled that we found Hybrid Retrievers! We won't be getting another dog from anywhere else.

What an amazing dog! He (Dublin) is so solid in the field with both pointing and retrieving. Dublin is also a great family dog and loves to cuddle with my kids. Dublin is he more then I was hoping for with a new dog. Family is already talking about getting another one!

Koda (50 lbs) has been a wonderful addition to our household. We don’t hunt with her but she gets out every day for 7-10 mile hikes, ranging far and wide but always coming back when called and periodically checking back in. She’s a very responsive dog and loves all people and dogs. She’s everyone’s favorite and we get constant comments about how beautiful she is. She’s got the best temperament. We can’t imagine life without her and are thankful that we found Hybrid Retrievers. She’s the perfect dog for us.

Picked up our dog from HybridRetrievers just before hunting season started. He's been great pup all around. Very smart dog and a fast learner. Couldn't be any easier to train! Has been great at the house and in the field. He was pointing on his first hunt with us!
October 2022 Genoa, NV
It’s Oct and Sully is almost twenty months, this is an update. Sully is a great dog, a perfect mix of GSP and LabR. She has all the best characteristics of both- great nose, great speed, great agility, great stamina, loves to swim, loves people, excellent with other dogs, very trainable. In this part of NV, we can have cold winters and hot summers, Sully deals with all types of weather. Sully loves everybody and everybody loves Sully. People are amazed at how well controlled she is. We live on about three acres and this time of year the bucks are obnoxious. Our grand kids live with us and I often need to move the deer along so the kids can get out to the bus. Sully loves to help. The other day we were out and Sully was in a full run after a buck, she is whistled trained and as they reached the edge of the lot, I gave quick tweet to signal “stop” which she did promptly. Our neighbor saw this and was amazed that she has the discipline to break off the chase on command. Sully knows the boundaries, she won’t leave the fenced area without permission, I can leaves gates open, I can leave the garage doors open without worries and when she is out, she is excellent in observing the lot boundaries. Neighbors have commented on how well controlled she is. All our neighbors want Sully or at least a dog like Sully. I use a Garmin Alpha 100 with a TT15 for training and it is an invaluable tool. With it, when we hike, I know where she is and I can get her back with a push of the tone button.
Summer 2017 & Summer 2022 SD
I cannot say enough good things about our dogs. Reese is now 5 years old and is not only a great hunting dog (coveted “pointing lab”), but an amazing family dog. He is fantastic with our 2 year old son. We decided to add to our family this year with Benelli. We have had her for a little over a week and she is extremely smart. We have also seen her in point a few times. They both know when to play and when to cuddle! Thank you Hybrid Retrievers for breeding wonderful pups—we wouldn’t go anywhere else to add a fur baby to our family.

Summer 2020 - Twin Cities, MN
My search for a hybrid retriever began a few years ago. I hoped to transition from a 13-year-old hybrid retriever who is the best family companion & superior gun dog. The search ended with Kevin and hybridretrievers.com. Birdie was born May 2020. She was a great puppy and quickly acclimated to household life with small children. She later completed the several rounds of training at Dokken’s Oak Ridge Kennels in Northfield, MN. My trainer complimented Birdie’s temperament and drive. We had limited exposure to the water and field in 2020 as a ~5-month-old. I waited to write this until her second year in the field. Now that the seasons are upon us, I’m prepared to say that she’s proven to be the versatile household and field dog I envisioned. Her duck blind manner is rock solid and she is willing to make even the longest of water retrieves. We recently completed a trip to Idaho where she flushed and retrieved chukar and Hungarian partridge. Couldn’t have asked for a better pup. Thanks Kevin!

Our sweet Doobie just turned one and he joined our family three months ago! He’s the perfectly family dog and loves all the cuddles and attention. He’s so gentle with our infant and five year old human kids. Doobie also has all the big puppy energy and is the fastest dog we’ve seen. The day we brought him home, he already knew how to fetch and release when he came back. We couldn’t have had a better experience and are so thankful we came across the Hybrid Retrievers!

Our sweet Riggs just turned 9 months! He has the biggest personality and sweetest temperament of any dog I’ve ever met. He is playful, smart and loving, and completes our family. Everyone says he is more human than dog. He is well socialized and has never so much as growled at another dog. Riggs was the runt of the litter but has gotten so big so quickly! We just adore him and are so thankful to Kevin and Kristie.

Goose is the greatest dog ever. He and my 11 year old son are best friends. My husband and I often look at each other and say "I can't believe we got such a great dog." We were a little worried about getting a hunting dog that we don't hunt. But here he is hanging out with me in my home office, very tired after an 8 mile trail run. His obedience and recall are excellent. His temperament remains quite relaxed and goofy. Smartest dog we have ever known. He LOVES playing with other dogs. Thanks again for such a great dog.

Our family is so grateful for the opportunity to raise one of the exceptional puppies from Hybrid Retrievers. We purchased Chocolate Boy in November 2020 for a Detector Dog candidate in our large correctional facility. This is the first Dog we purchased from Kevin at Hybrid Retrievers. Chocolate Boy was a joy to train and completed the basic detector dog academy in 4 weeks. Chocolate Boy has 8 odors imprinted and has a locked in "point-stare" at odor source. After training police dogs for over 23 years, I can say Kevin and Kristie's Hybrid Retrievers have the drive and environmental stability for high stress narcotics detector work.
December 2019 - Omaha Nebraska
Agnes is just one year old this November of 2020. Her first hunt this December of 2020 our guide said in 40 years he’d never seen a better hunting dog under 2 years old. I thank Kevin for that. He invited us up for an afternoon of training in early November. Some how he unlocked her potential in just a couple hours. No charge. Part of the purchase price. Aggie is a joy. We all love her so dearly.
Nov 2020 - Massachusetts
We can't tell you how happy we are to have McGee in our lives! 2020 has been a challenging year, but the addition of McGee has brightened it immensely. He is loving, playful and wonderfully intelligent. Everyone who meets him remarks on his lovely temperament and how beautiful he is. Kevin and Kristie made the process of getting him to Boston stress-free and we are so appreciative of all the care they showed him. Our Vet pronounced him "the picture of health" at his first appointment. We could not be happier with our hybrid retriever and look forward to adding another to our family next year. Love our dog,Chester. He is excellent with the kids. Very gentle and laid back. Great in the home. Loves to be active outside, has energy when he goes with my wife on a run and with me to do some bird hunting in the fields, but inside knows his limits and would be content to sit and watch a movie or cartoons and be happy! Can't even tell you what a perfect for he is for us, including the kids.

Kevin and Kristy We wanted to thank you for the wonder addition to our family. Shortly after receiving Jack, I was notified that my company would be transferring me to New Mexico. While there is a small population of pheasant here, there is an over abundant population of four species of quail. Jack had a stellar year with having around 250 birds shot over him. I was so impressed with all the natural instincts this little pup came equipped with. He was rock solid on his points with natural retrieving skills and has an unbelievable drive to hunt quail. This was only his first season and with little than two weeks till the season opener for 2019/2020, I can’t wait to see how much he has grown. And when my wife and I aren’t taking Jack for hikes in the mountains, parks, etc, he’s playing in the backyard our swimming in the pool on these hot New Mexico days. Jack was Started Dog 678 and we lived in Minot ND before I was transferred. Please let me know how I can send you some pictures of Jack and video of him on point hunting Blue Quail. Also, I have a friend down here that I hunt with ever weekend and he is so impressed with Jack he is making the choice to start shopping your starting pup as well. Hi, This is Gina from Washington State. We adopted/purchased Puppy #640 Darla & Dakota 7/4/2017 She’s the Chocolate Female with green eyes and a white mark on her chest. We have named her Cora Ann. She is a loyal, Sweet and Beautiful! My husband and I walk, hike & run with her. Cora is a favorite at the doggy daycare where she’s goes once a week to play with her dog friends. Took him up to Northern MN on vacation with us this year??! He boats, fishes, swims…LOVES the water! He has a split personality. He’s a big baby around the house – can’t get enough attention and affection and will lay on his bed in the house all weekend like a 10 year old lab. In the field, he’s very driven and never quits – couldn’t care less if you pet him…just wants to keep hunting!

What a JOY to have a new puppy in the family! Thurman is the perfect family dog. He’s even tempered and wonderful with our 4 daughters ages 11, 9, 7 and 4. Kristie was a delight to work with before I picked up Thurman in South Dakota— and knocked off my 46th state! I can’t say enough good things about our puppy. We’ve had pugs for the last 20 years and love that breed, but we wanted to add a big dog into our family. He’s smart and SO loving!! Thank you so much!! We couldn’t be happier!!
NE Opener 2018
Harley all growed up!! Opening day Nebraska! Found the pheasant in 7' tall crp and brought it back. Worked the corn row and flushed 8 hens, lacked the roosters but he did an amazing job! Great family dog, loves the 5 year old, and goes right to work when we get to the field. Thanks again for an amazing dog. Everyone loves his coloring and compliments his looks. Wife loves his " handsome bark" when told to speak.

Watson just turned 1 and we could not be more happy with our boy! He’s exactly what we were looking for: an energetic dog for hunting that loves to cuddle and is well behaved in the house. Hank is the best dog I’ve ever had in my life. He is very fun and has a great time playing, but also is a great inside dog. He knows exactly when it’s time to calm down, and enjoys snoring in his chair like an old man though he’s just a week from being 1. I asked Kevin for a dog that doesn’t shed as much and he hand picked me Hank. He delivered on his promise as Hank is great looking and his shedding is more than manageable. I will absolutely be getting another dog from Kevin and Kristie in the future!!

Maggie is doing great, sorry it took me so long to respond, I was away. She is very active and as fast as a greyhound. I personally think she would beat them in a race. I just had her spayed last week, and she is now 52 pounds and looks great. I’ve attached some pics for you to see. She has beautiful green eyes and such a cute face. A really cuddlier. I can see her hunting skills when I let her out in the backyard, she has already caught a squirrel and rabbit. I’ve attached some pics in order of her getting bigger. She is certainly been a great addition to our family and everyone just loves her to death. Vet says, she will not really grow much more, so she is a perfect size. Loves the water, splashes in it whenever she jumps on the pool cover, it will be fun once it’s opened in the summer. Hope you are both well.

I bought my dog Bailey from here in 2015. She has been one of the best dogs I have owned. She is very energetic but will be calm around my daughter. She is very obedient and was very easy to train. Is an excellent hunter and has a real good nose on her. Last year she started to point and also retrieves. I don't have anything bad to say about her. I would absolutely buy another dog from here. They were also great to work with while picking her out. I would recommend anyone who wants a good hunting/family dog to buy from Hybrid Retrievers!

I hope all is well in South Dakota. We thought we would drop you a quick update on our 4 legged family member Ella. She is a doing so well, and is loving life with our two boys. She is pure muscle and energy. She is incredibly energetic, but also well behaved. One of the things we love about her, is that she stays around us all the time. You can let her outside to play (which she loves to do) but she always hangs around close to the house, and comes immediately on command. She is loving, friendly, and a great member of the family. Hi Kristie and Kevin, just wanted to give you an update. I got my pup from Texas and Haas litter born 3/11/14 while living in Washington state. The only brown and white swirl male in a litter with three black sisters. Django is phenomenal. He is the most loving dog we’ve ever shared our lives with. He has a personality like no other. We are blessed to have him in our lives. Thank you for giving us these wonderful pups.

Greetings from way up here on the Hi-Line of Montana. Thank you Kevin and Kristie for the magnificent dog you provided to me. You run a very class act operation. I am always skeptical about purchasing the "runt" of any litter, but you guys definitely know what you're doing. Roony, fittingly named after Mickey Roony, just turned 4 months old and weighed in at 24.5 lbs. He is a very athletic, smart, energetic dog, but at the same time the most loving and friendly dog you will come across. Absolutely loves playing with kids and cuddling, but more than anything he just enjoys being outside, no matter what the weather. He has an amazing nose, loves to retrieve, and is going to be a pointer. Looking forward to the upcoming hunting season and thank you again!

Kevin and Kristie, I want to thank you for all your help in letting myself experience your breeding program and picking out my dog. Izzy is now 8 months and when I purchased her I was not expecting alot out of her this first hunting season, but WOW after only a few times out she is pointing, marking and retrieving as well as any dog that I have ever hunted with. My hunting friends are very jealous and are just amazed of how she works in the field. She is also a great family dog with a great disposition and is so loving to all my family. Freya turn one year at the end of August. We drove her home in October 2013. She is the best dog. Lively, loveable, and always on the scent of something. Never sure what, but she does. We know she's not full grown yet. She is 62 lbs and almost 24" at her shoulder. People always comment on how pretty she is and love her all black head like her dad. We are so glad we found you and out best buddy.
Spring 2014 - Washington
Just wanted to let you know how much we love our little boy. In the three weeks we've had him he has impressed everyone he's met. He's showing interest in birds and is eager to learn and please. He is an awesome puppy. Looking forward to losing the puppy teeth :), those little boogers are sharp. We are so glad we found you. Django is filling the void of the the beautiful boy we lost last year. A day without this wonderful mixture of lab and shorthair is too long. They are the most loving and smart dogs around. Thank you Kristie and Kevin for giving us the pleasure of raising this phenomenal dog.
Koda (Dakota language for friend) has exceeded my highest expectations. This was Koda’s first season out where he retrieved over 30 ducks and even a few snow geese. He has a nose like no other dog I’ve ever had. I dropped at least 15 of the ducks in the cattails and Koda found every one of them. We never lost a duck or goose all season!! Pheasant hunting he has stamina and works the field like an experienced dog. He is always checking the wind for scent and is controlled when he gets on a hot scent. Never once did he break and go sprinting a mile ahead. That’s a good first year dog. What a great sight to see Koda come back through the weeds with a rooster in his mouth. KODA IS THE ALL AROUND HUNTING DOG I ALWAYS DREAM ABOUT!! At home he is a funny dog that loves to run as fast as he can, then jump in the air and spin a 180. Zeke (RIP) was my best dog ever, but I tell ya, Koda is on his way to claim that title.

My buddy and I bought brother's from Kevin and Kristie last spring hoping to get a good house dog that had the love and drive to hunt. The dog I got could not be a better fit if I made him myself. First off dealing with Kevin was great, he was very upfront and honest about his dogs and what the different crosses he breeds should produce, so I would strongly recommend calling and discussing exactly what you want with him and he will get it for you! My pup is now 8 months old and after a few hunts with some more experienced dogs he has taken off in the pheasant fields already occasionally pointing, along with finding wounded running birds. Thanks again Kevin for breeding such special pups.

amazing dog. I named her Dakota. On her last two hunts she located 15 birds out
of 20. Pointed about 8 of them & flushed & retrieved all of them. She
really loves to hunt. I will send you some photos of her in the field when I get
some good ones.

her down in December and and wanted another. There is no comparison to any dog
we have had before. She is a smart, sweet, loving family dog. We live in the
city so she won't get much time in the field until spring when we take her up
north. She will have unlimited access to Lake Huron which I know she will enjoy.

I am so impressed with Cassie. I was raised around hunting dogs, Labs and
Goldens, and hunt with friends that have GSP's and have never seen a dog respond
so quickly to training. At 9 weeks, and only 6 days away from the litter, she is
already grasping the basics. While she won't be ready for this years Chukar and
Grouse I am planning to get her out in the field for the end of Duck season in

Fall 2012 - Aspen, CO
Good afternoon, I just wanted to express my gratitude to Kristie & Kevin for how easy they made the process of getting my pup, Kearney. She is an amazing dog and has adjusted well to many changes over the past week. She got to spend the first 5 days at elk hunting camp where we traipsed around the woods for hours. She wasn't afraid to go up, over, or under anything we came across. She wasn't so keen on the coyotes we heard at night, but I can't say I blame her. After leaving camp we headed home to Aspen, CO. She loves that we live next door to so much open space and new places to explore. She is particularly fond of the snow, which we got about 6" of this weekend. Hi Kevin, This is Tye from Ca. I wanted to let you know how the pup (Frank) that I bought from you is progressing. I've been working him with live birds and he is doing very well for a youngster. He is very good with people and other dogs. He is very smart aswell. I think he will be bigger then both of his parents, but we will have to wait and see. I think he wants to flush...do your dogs ussually lean more in one direction when it comes to pointing and flushing? I will try to remember to take a picture next time I'm working him. Thanks Tye

“Kissy 2 has been a great dog for us. She has the attributes of the lab and short hair personalities. I must add, the good attributes of both breeds. She is a big, strong dog which gives her stamina in tough hunting conditions such as brush and warm season grasses.
I think she is good as a lab on pheasant and almost as good as a short hair on quail. Not a bad combination. I think by interbreeding some of the inbred problems of both breeds are illuminated. The hips are great, and she has the calmness of a lab.
If I was looking for another dog, I would again go for the dropper or interbreeding between two good working breeds. The pure breads have carried the a good thing to far...........”

“Hope you had a great hunting season. We bought one of your pups last June and just wanted to let you know that Taz had a GREAT hunting season (amazing given how young he was). We hunted him at least 30 days and he performed great (most of the time was spent hunting pheasant although he did get the opportunity to retrieve waterfowl also). He began to point about halfway through the season (became very steady at point by the end of the season). I knew he was doing well when at the Governor's Hunt he retrieved 5 birds out of the White River in front of a group of 15 hunters (could have sold him multiple times that day).”

“You've heard it before, "Love at first sight". That's what it was for a 40 year old man who was a kid again walking the fields of western South Dakota with friends, a trusted guide, pheasants popping up everywhere and hunting dogs. Again and again my eyes would laser in on the working dogs. When they would pile in and out of the transport bus, I would whistle or snap in hopes of getting one to come sit with me. They were beautiful. I was especially intrigued with a female with the clear look of a big lab but the markings and coat of something else. Kevin, the owner, shared their unique mix of lab and German short hair pointer. He then told me she was "expecting" and I thought “whoa, how cool would it be.”
The litter came and my next visits to the City allowed me to see the litter of 11 at 6 months then again at 11 months of age. The beauty that looked just like her spotted mother was still there along with 3 others of the original litter. I became a young boy again, asking (begging) my wife to please let me have this dog. Kevin shared how they have made great hunters as well as great house pets. He didn't lie. We have had her for 3 months and she has been exceptional.
Easily trained for the yard as well as in the fields and hardwoods of North Carolina. My wife and three girls say often, "she sure loves you, Dad; you should have called her 'Shadow' because she follows you everywhere." If you are thinking about a dog, a real dog- not these little yippie small Manhattan breeds but a real dog...do yourself a favor, ask Kevin what pups or when he has another group of pups available and plead your case. You may just find your shadow.
